Outdoor Remodeling

Outdoor remodeling can make a tremendous difference in the curb appeal of your home and potentially provide financial benefits as well! Two common reasons you may consider an outdoor remodel is for visual appearance when you are looking to sell your home and/or for personal satisfaction when you have just purchased or currently own. Projects can range anywhere from a couple hundred dollars for something like annual lawn care to tens of thousands for larger projects such as a new pool or outdoor kitchen.

With any remodeling project, it’s always important to get an estimate of the value you could end up recovering to determine if it’s worth your while. Similar to interior remodeling, outdoor projects to increase curb appeal could surprise you with what has the largest return. Common projects might offer less overall value than you may think, so it is important to do your homework before any project is started.

Do Your Homework

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) recently published a report on the impact of outdoor remodeling based on estimates from the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP). The report gives details of the strong impact of curb appeal in relation to listings and selling a home, and ranks the appeal and likely added value of 13 common outdoor remodeling projects. It also goes over an estimated percent of value recovered and a joy score based on happiness after the completion of a project.
