It’s still a seller’s market in many parts of the country. And if you’re planning to sell soon, it’s important to understand what buyers want most in a home. As you might expect, what’s in-demand varies based on where you live. But here are four of the most sought-after features, according to a realtor.com® analysis.

  • Self-contained living spaces. There are many names for it. She-shed. Man cave. In-law suite. Casita. But no matter what you call it, separate living spaces are all the rage in many parts of the United States. Whether buyers are looking for a separate space they can use to pursue hobbies or a place for extended family to stay, these extra living spaces ranked at the top of the list of features buyers were looking for in 13 states.
  • Backyards. Urban living isn’t for everyone. Many people want yards that provide privacy as well as a place where they can relax, and their kids can play.
  • One-story living. Many buyers prefer the simplicity of having everything they need on one level without having to walk up and down a couple of flights of stairs multiple times a day. In nine states buyers were most concerned about finding a first-floor master, rancher, rambler or other set-up that allowed them to live on a single level.
  • Water access. While sitting on the deck and looking out over the water would be a nice way to start the day just about anywhere, views of lakes, canals, rivers and creeks are most desired in six states, including Arkansas, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Whether you’re looking for one of the features outlined above or you have something else in mind, give us a call and one of our licensed professionals can help you find the mortgage that’s right for you.
